Zemun

Zemun town square
Zemun is a historic town on the banks of the Danube and is now one of the 17 municipalities which constitute the city of Belgrade.   However, it's across the Sava River and for most of its history, it developed separately from Belgrade.   Now, the area of Novi Beograd joins them in a continuous urban area, and it's just a bus ride away.    However, I read on the internet that a form of friendly rivalry continues to exist between them.

Casual restaurants
We went there today (Thursday) for lunch.   There are numerous cafes and eating places in the old part of the town and along the banks of the Danube.   The day was very warm and we lingered for quite a while enjoying the ambiance at one of the restaurants on the river bank.
